Unfortunately, between 1997 and today, weepy organizers like Brian Barnhardt and others attempted to turn the aesthetic of Indycar design into fields of spec-controlled hybrids, that ended up looking like perverse meldings between prototype sportscars and what they were supposed to be – freaking ‘open-wheel’ cars.
2000
2016
Thankfully, ‘some group’ in Indy has finally gotten their collective heads out of the up and locked position, since the 2018 aero kits look an awful like the golden open-wheel era whence they came; purpose-built racers that go really, really fast in a straight line, brake like someone dropped a two-ton anchor, and turn on a dime.
