Compcams – New 10-10-10 Camshaft Break-In

Old Dog; New Trick

The traditional process for breaking in a new camshaft has always been to run the engine for 15 to 20 minutes, thereby ensuring that all components have been seated themselves properly. However, on the basis of independent testing, Compcams have concluded that there may be a better way to get the job done. In the new process the approach is to ‘heat-cycle’ all components by running the engine for 10 minutes, let the engine to cool for 10 minutes, then run another 10 minute engine cycle. It is suggested that the alternative allows components to again seat properly, while also avoiding early-stage wear and tear, leading to longer engine life.
